How They Work - OK/red letter games

Collecting an OK game is also slightly different than collecting scores. You need to be holding down the R-button when the search wipers are checking row 29 on the search disc.

The reason for this is simple. If you just pushed the R-button like usual and the OK game reset sequence started, you could get screwed out of collecting replays. For example, if you have the screen positioned such that there are two numbers in the orange section, and an in-line winner with the remaining three or more balls, you'd be pretty irritated if the game reset before you got paid for the inline winner. The requirement that you be holding down the R-button for the OK game to collect gets rid of problems like this.

The green highlighted circuit shows that when the R-button ("front rail collect scores button") is closed when the winner unit has stepped up enough and the position 29 relay is closed, the shutter motor will be powered to open the shutter. Opening the shutter not only dumps the balls, but it triggers the game reset sequence.

position 29 relay

The position 29 relay is going to show up all over the place, and it's name is literal. The relay closes when the search wipers are on row 29, which is the row that the game is looking for an OK winner. When the search wipers aren't on row 29, this relay is open and the game cannot go into the OK reset sequence.

Keeping with the tradition of mentioning irrelevant things, you can also see a position 33 relay on the schematic. This relay is used on golden gate and silver sails to collect the golden game, which is also a new/special game that requires a modified reset sequence.
